Qualified FSA Expenses

The Affordable Care Act severely limits how over-the-counter medications are reimbursed through a health Flexible Spending Account (FSA). Starting in January 2011, over-the-counter medications can only be reimbursed through an FSA if prescribed by a physician. However, the new rule does not apply to items for medical care that are not medicines or drugs. Thus, equipment such as crutches, supplies such as bandages, and diagnostic devices such as blood sugar test kits still qualify for reimbursement through a health FSA, regardless of whether the items are purchased using a prescription. Bukaty Companies has been providing in-house FSA administrative services for nearly 15 years. Our expertise ensures your plan complies with IRS guidelines.
